A Collector’s Dream

We are often asked what makes a print look good. Honestly, thats a loaded question, but we like to say that the devil is in the details. The Maison54 Collection is one of those projects that is simple on paper, but a closer look reveals a lot more. This series was produced by Invisible Industries with a goal of creating a limited edition print series focused on creativity and artist collaboration. Each print brings together three artists, who collaborate on a themed illustration. So far, there have been five released prints, and each—we’re proud to say—have been printed here at InHouse!

The true star of this print series is the collaborative efforts of the artists. It is rare to have two artists collaborate on one piece, let alone three. From the start, our client let us know that they wanted the series to be special. We knew we wanted the artwork really be center stage, and the materials would only help emphasize that. The colors were limited to only two, a black and a rich metallic gold. (A red and gold variant was also produced, these are very limited.) No distracting substrates were used for this job. Instead we worked together with Invisible Industries to select a soft white cotton paper. Cotton papers are often more expensive, and are slightly harder to print on. The paper is not as smooth, making it difficult to print large solid colors. Still, the quality, archivability, and texture are unique. Choosing a cotton paper also meant we could emboss and deckle the edges with ease. These details are time consuming; each print must be manually deckled and embossed one at a time. The outcome, however, makes it all worth it!
